Lyra's world is a world very much like ours, but it's in a parallel universe. It has the continents, the oceans, Brytain, Norroway, and the North Pole . . . but much is shockingly different. In Lyra's world, a person's soul lives on the outside of their body in the form of a daemon — a talking animal spirit that accompanies them through life, always close to it's corporeal half. In our world the soul lives inside the body. It's the real you. In the real world demons try and get inside the body through lust, greed, lying, hatred, anger, etc. At death the soul will either go to a perfect paradise where there is no suffering, loneliness, pain, or death, or it will go to a place called Hell. Forever. Note: demons want to take you to Hell, and (in your mind) they will mock even the thought of each place. Inside the soul is a golden compass. If you listen carefully, it will tell you where you should go. Let's see what your compass tells you. Have you hated anyone (committed murder in your heart)? Have you made a god to suit yourself? Have you always honored your parents implicitly? Have you had sex outside of marriage (fornication)? Have you used God’s name in vain (He gave you life, and you’ve used His name as a cuss word)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever lusted? Have you ever stolen something (irrespective of its value)? If you have, you are a thief. If you have told just one lie, you are a liar, and cannot enter Heaven. On Judgment Day you will be found guilty, and end up in Hell, forever. But that's not God's will. We broke His Law (the Ten Commandments) but because Jesus paid our fine on the cross 2000 years ago, God can forgive us. The Bible says, "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Then He rose from the dead, and defeated the power of the grave. If you repent and trust the Savior, God will forgive your sins and grant you everlasting life. So, confess your sins to God today, put your faith in Jesus Christ, then read the Bible daily and obey what you read (see John 14:21).
---------------
"The Golden Compass" is a movie that introduces children to a series of books. The author said "my books are about killing God." He wants to "kill God in the minds of children." The movie's website allows visitors to answer a set of questions and create their own "daemons" that journey alongside them in life. Please consider getting these and giving them out at theaters that screen the film.
