Miriam was born on April 16, 1956 to Bishop Huey L. and Lou Ann Harris. Surrounded by a talented and musical family, young Miriam soon established her place among her seven sisters and five brothers as a vocalist who was sure to be heard.

In 1963 Miriam began singing with her family, known as the Harris Family Singers. Inspired by God, the founder and leader Mother Harris began writing and composing songs. The Harris Family traveled throughout the eastern and southern coasts. Heard by the popular disc jockey, Elijah Beckham, at a Gospel Concert, the Harris Family Singers were immediately introduced to “Speedy” Warwick, the father of Dionne Warwick. He then signed them to HOB records, a subsidiary of SCEPTOR records. Famed producer, John Bowden, produced their album. Through their ministry of song, many doors were opened allowing the Harris Family to perform on stage with gospel greats, such as Evangelist Shirley Caesar, The Soul Stirrers, Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Pilgrim Jubilees, Gloria Spencer, Dorothy Love Coates and the Gospel Harmonettes, The Sensational Nightingales and many more. While still performing and keeping the busy schedule of the Harris Family Singers, Miriam was often called upon for special guest performances for various occasions.

On September 25, 1976, Miriam married Roger L. Tatuem. Miriam and Roger would serve under the leadership of her father, Bishop Harris until June 1991, when they were called by God to pastor Helping Hands Ministries, A.F. Currently serving as the assistant pastor of Helping Hands Ministries in Churchville, Maryland, Miriam is still a leader of praise and worship and often expounds the importance of true worship to the various ministries under her leadership.

In March 2008 Miriam released her debut CD, “Abba Father,” produced by Steven Ford. This album is a collection of songs written by Miriam as the Lord gave them to her through her victories and life experiences. Although just recently released, many testimonies of inspiration and encouragement have been reported.

Once asked, “How do you find time with your schedule to write such inspiring songs?” Miriam replied, “I’ve learned since the age of six when I accepted Christ as my Savior to  spend special time meditating on God. I also keep a note pad and pen by my bedside because sometimes early in the morning, God wakes me with a song.”
