HISTORY: Whistlers were put on the spout of the teakettle, which whistled when the water boiled. They were often used on copper kettles. You'll see a photo I found of an old copper kettle which shows a whistler exactly like this one. ( Kettle Does NOT come with whistler. LISTING IS FOR WHISTLER,ONLY)
It 's base is old copper lined with metal, which usually was tin, but can't confirm interior metal . It's made in the same way as old copper, metal lined pots and pans. The bluebird is made of painted metal, which appears under the slight paint wear to be metal other than copper.
CONDITION: It's in very good antique condition for an old whistle which whistled many kettles of water. The bluebird shows some wear and paint rubbed loss on body, including the beak, around eyes, on head, feathers , feet and base . Copper Base: Age soil patina, some verdigris. Please write with questions and consider all the photos for details.
IMPORTANT: SHOULD BE PURCHASED FOR DISPLAY , ONLY...as there are many different old copper kettles and spouts sizes, so it would be only by chance that it would fit and whistle in a kettle you may already have.( But, it would be fun to look for a kettle for it !)
